So pretty! So unique! This little island is a statement piece for sure!
Below: Circa 2000 standard oak finish solid wood cabinets, I forgot a before picture, but they were traditional honey-oak stain. Now they are clean, updated solid white with high traffic chip resistant "Breakthough" sprayed satin finish

Railing idea: a quick update to a manufactured, builder grade white railing and spindles, simply adding an enamel and stain with faux wood grain to the top railing in an dark espresso color gives it a much more updated and sophisticated look. This added so much to this home, pictures don't do it justice! It is protected with a urethane and is very durable as well as hides smudgy finger and hand marks that accumulate from every day use. |
Above: Cabinets were too bright red from prior paint job (a solid paint, not stain) and too bright for the client, so I distressed them, rubbed them with a brown gel stain, installed wainscotting in the shelf covey, and painted it brown
progression of a custom end-cap cabinet and island trim and paint (below):
above: from a simple (older) oak finish and plain ends to an antique white with glaze/distressing and a custom trim ends, (hardware/pulls/knobs were installed later)
base board installation, caulking, painting:
before: solid yellow walls, no chair rail, and rubber industrial baseboard glued on walls
|
after: broke up the monotone yellow with chair rail, took out the rubber industrial trim and replaced it with wood, painted white. Painted lower portion blue to tie in accents in the rest of the office that aren't seen here.
|
Before: all cabinets in this kitchen are a solid light grey, the pantry door was left bright white and stood out like a sore thumb, so I chose to glaze the door and surrounding trim, since there were rustic accents in the rest of the kitchen: slate tile, dark hardwood, off-white accents, brown accents, and grey cabinets
-mustard taupe walls from before painting |
After: Glazed door the same grey color from the cabinets, but left it with more movement and wood grain. Then highlighted the deep grooves of the door front with a mocha-brown pin-stripe line to tie in the warm brown accents in the rest of the kitchen.
-you can also see that the walls got painted a new grey taupe and the door knob updated |
